Prepare for the paranormal in Supernatural Week on Horror Channel
Tune into Horror Channel between Saturday May 15 and May 22 for a chilling collection of otherworldly film classics and premieres with Supernatural Week.
The special event sees eight nights of supernatural action, starting and ending with Horror Channel premieres: from the groundbreaking found footage classic Paranormal Activity to the critically acclaimed horror It Follows.
Here’s what’s coming up on Supernatural Week:
Saturday May 15 at 9pm: Paranormal Activity
The week begins with the Horror Channel premiere of the 2007 global hit Paranormal Activity. It tells the story of a couple who are convinced they are being haunted by a demonic presence in their home and decide to use a video camera to search for evidence. Praised by critics for its low-budget artistry, Paranormal Activity inspired a generation of similar found footage style horror movies.
Sunday May 16 at 9pm: Christine (1983)
Based on Stephen King’s 1983 novel of the same name, this American classic horror film tells the story of high school geek Arnie Cunningham who falls for his new car, lovingly named ‘Christine’, as he attempts to restore her. Blinded by his love for the red 1958 Plymouth Fury, Arnie fails to notice her jealous and possessive streak. By the time Arnie’s friends realise the danger, it’s too late: nobody can come between Arnie and Christine.
Monday May 17 at 9pm: Sinister (2012)
Acclaimed actor Ethan Hawke stars in Monday’s offering, Sinister, which tells the story of a family who move to a home whose previous occupants were gruesomely murdered. When patriarch Ellison discovers a batch of Super 8 home movies in the attic, it looks like he has found the answer to what happened in his household. It also looks to bring his own family into mortal danger.
Tuesday May 18 at 9pm: Flatliners (1990)
On Tuesday, Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts star in Flatliners, a stylish psychological thriller with a fascinating premise: five medical students’ attempts to discover what lies beyond death by conducting dangerous experiments on themselves. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing in 1990, Flatliners sees the students stop their own hearts to experience a kind of afterlife, before resuscitating each other, only to become haunted by ghosts from their pasts.
Wednesday May 19 at 9pm: The Quiet Ones (2014)
College students are at it again in 2014 horror The Quiet Ones. Under the influence of unorthodox university professor, Coupland, a student assists with experiments on a troubled young woman called Jane- who seems infused with supernatural energy. Desperate to prove the paranormal does not really exist, Coupland goes against the advice of the school board and moves his experiments elsewhere, sparking a chain of events that cannot be undone.
Thursday May 20 at 9pm: The Devil’s Candy (2015)
When the Hellmans move into their new Texas home, they can’t predict the influence its violent past will have on their family. Family patriarch and artist Jesse’s paintings turn sinister when he begins to hear strange voices, and daughter Zooey becomes enchanted by the violent previous occupant of the house, a troubled musician named Ray. Can Jesse resist the influence of the house, while also protecting Zooey from her entanglement with a clearly unbalanced young man?
Friday May 21 at 9pm: FirstBorn (2016)
Evocative thriller FirstBorn airs on the 21st, telling the story of a young couple who learn their newborn daughter is attracting supernatural entities. What’s worse, the couple’s attempts to protect their child only serve to antagonise the beings that haunt her. FirstBorn is an examination of what happens when the supernatural infringes on everyday life, and the extent to which parents will go to protect their kids.
Saturday May 22 at 9pm: It Follows
The critically acclaimed modern classic It Follows tells the story of a 19-year-old girl called Jay whose encounter with a boyfriend leads to strange visions and a nightmarish sense that something is following her.
