Zayn Malik joins boy band TV series with Entourage creators
It appears that Zayn Malik just can’t leave his boy band roots behind. The former One Direction member turned solo star is now said to be working on a TV drama with the creators of Entourage, which will centre around a 1D-style pop group.
Zayn will executive produce, however it’s unclear at the moment whether he’ll also act in the show. He has previously expressed his ambitions to follow in the footsteps of his former bandmate Harry Styles (although he’d never phrase it as such) and branch out from music, telling Elle UK:
“I started acting when I was in school with theatre studies and then music came after. It completely stopped when I joined the band but I’d definitely be interested if I was given the right role.”
Speaking of the as yet unnamed new show, which Zayn will work on with the team behind Emmy-winning series Entourage, a source has said: “This is a big deal for Zayn. He has been keen to get stuck into different projects outside of music and this is the perfect move. It’s a subject he knows lots about and he will call upon his experiences to advise the scriptwriters on the show. If the series does well, he’ll receive plenty of kudos in the industry.”
Casting for the series kicks off in LA next month, with producers looking to cast real musicians and release the music created in the series as a pop record.
Meanwhile, we look forward to watching Harry Styles’s acting debut in upcoming Christopher Nolan war drama Dunkirk alongside Oscar winner Mark Rylance.
