X Factor’s Nicole Scherzinger reveals she is anti-abortion
X Factor‘s Nicole Scherzinger reveals her pro-life beliefs after admitting she almost turned down her role in ABC’s remake of Dirty Dancing due to an abortion plot line.
The former Pussycat Doll is set to play Penny in the new TV adaptation of the iconic 1980’s film. Nicole’s character kicks off events when she suddenly falls pregnant and decides to have an illegal abortion, leading dance instructor Johnny to Baby.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Scherzy talked about how she had to weigh up the ethical implications before accepting the television role.
She said: “I was like a crazy thing because, my family, my papa’s a bishop and my family’s really hardcore against abortion.
“So I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion, because my character has an abortion.”
The singer continued: “But I was like, hopefully they can learn from you know her ways and I can be a positive influence. My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18. She chose. Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion.
“So I came out, so I just want to you know encourage everybody to keep your babies.
“We decided that maybe I could be a voice, that I could shed some light on the subject without being preachy.”
The new version of Dirty Dancing is set to air next year and stars Scream Queens‘ Abigail Breslin and Broadway legend Colt Prattes as Baby and Johnny.
Dirty Dancing will air sometime next year on ABC.
