X Factor’s Ivy Grace Paredes reveals the real reason for her departure
Last week, viewers of the X Factor were outraged when they heard that contestant and favourite to win Ivy Grace Paredes was forced to leave the singing competition.
The 33-year-old aspiring singer from the Philippines delivered another impressive performance of a Whitney Houston classic, “I Have Nothing”, during the Six Chair Challenge last weekend. Ivy blew the judges away as she belted out the top notes with absolute ease, and she was awarded a seat straight away.
Sadly, however, it was announced that visa problems meant that Ivy had to withdraw from the last stage of the audition process at the Judges’ Houses. An X Factor spokesperson explained: “As with all contestants travelling to the US for Judges Houses, Ivy was required to have a visa. Unfortunately there was an issue with her application being approved which meant that she was not granted a visa in time and sadly had to withdraw from the competition.”
Yet, Ivy herself has now spoken up about her exit, and has revealed what truly happened. The singer denied the claim that the US had refused to issue her a visa, but instead explained how she actually ticked the wrong box on her visa application, meaning there was a delay in processing.
She said: “The US embassy officer said there’s no problem with my papers, but I applied in the wrong visa category. So I asked if I’m denied, the officer said no, you are not actually denied. He said ‘I advise that you apply for an artist visa instead.'”
She continued: “The process took 3 to 4 days and the X Factor team had to travel in two days.”
Ivy did not hold any grudges towards the X Factor team, however, and gracefully thanked the show on Facebook: “To the X Factor UK; especially to my mentor Sharon Osbourne for her unfailing support, Simon Cowell for the opportunity which millions did not have… the chance to hug you; thank you very much! You changed my life…”
The public have been very sad to see Ivy leave, but at least she may now be able to return another year.
X Factor Judges’ Houses continues Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7:30pm on ITV.
