X Factor judge categories are announced
The mentors for each of the X Factor categories this year have been revealed on the Sunday edition of the talent show.
At the end of a bumper bootcamp episode, half the remaining acts survived to learn who would be in charge of their category this year.
Without further ado, Simon Cowell will mentor the Girls, Nicole Scherzinger will take the Boys, Sharon Osbourne is looking after the Overs and Louis Walsh has the Groups yet again.
Simon Cowell has never mentored the Girls category, while Sharon has mentored the Overs three times, Nicole has mentored the Boys twice before and Louis Walsh has mentored the Groups a whopping six times during his time on the show.
The reveal came at the end of an action-packed episode in which contestants were forced to compete at the “Wall of Songs” for their preferred song selection. However, the twist lay in the fact that each song was repeated three times and all those who chose the same song would perform it together as a group.
This proved difficult right from the off as girlband Skarl3t, unhappy with the parts they received to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, left their fellow singers in the lurch when they decided to rehearse alone.
Fellow performers Kayleigh Marie Morgan and Tinuke subsequently suffered criticism for their performances after neither girl stood up to explain the situation for the judges.
Luckily, both were put through to the next part of the competition anyway as Simon had an inkling of what exactly had gone on behind the scenes.
More drama took place as contestant James Wilson disappeared entirely before his scheduled performance, having returned to the hotel due to stage fright.
Thankfully, Wilson returned to sing with fellow performers Samantha Atkinson and Rebekah Ryan just in time for all three of them to progress to next week’s dreaded Six Chair Challenge.
