Will Smith rebooting Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Ok 90s kids, time to get excited. Earlier this year, we learnt that one of our favourite childhood sitcoms, Full House, was being rebooted as a Netflix original series to be titled Fuller House. Now, 46-year-old man of all talents Will Smith has announced that he’s in “the very early stages” of developing a present-day version of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
TVLine reports that Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment is developing the family comedy, which will put a 21st-century spin on the “fish-out-of-water tale”, while still “maintaining the spirit” of the original.
It is not yet clear whether the new Fresh Prince will be a straight reboot or a revival/continuation of the original, which ran for six seasons between 1990 and 1996 on NBC. Regardless, we’re holding on hope that the whole Smith family – Will, Jada, Jaden, Willow and Trey – will be taking on acting roles.
Will Smith will reportedly serve as executive producer alongside his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and fellow Overbrook partners James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett.
