Will Sam Smith be performing with Matt Terry for the X Factor final?
It is rumoured that Sam Smith will perform with contestant Matt Terry for the X Factor final this year.
As we all know, the lucky final three contestants are blessed with the opportunity to sing a duet with a mystery famous face each year for the X Factor final. ITV has delivered some pretty big names in the past, nabbing the likes of Beyoncé, Michael Bublé, Take That and Rihanna.
And since we’re now all feeling rather robbed of that Honey G and Snoop Dogg performance we were promised, X Factor bosses are going to have to pull something impressive out of the bag for this year’s final.
Well, Sam Smith might just make up for that loss. The global superstar has been tipped as a possible duet partner for Matt Terry for the 2016 final, presuming he makes it that far.
The live final will be taking place in two weeks time at the Wembley Arena, meaning preparations for those finalist duets will be being made as we speak.
Sam Smith would seem a likely match considering Matt has previously admitted the singer is one of his idols. The contestant even performed one of his hit songs “Writing’s On The Wall” for Movie Week on the X Factor, confessing that Sam Smith resembles the type of recording artist he himself would like to become.
Matt recently spilled information about a ‘secret meeting’ with the chart-topping performer. He told The Sun newspaper: “It’s just crazy. I had a bunch of questions to ask him about his career. It was pretty cool. He’s an artist I’ve listened to since he started and I think his career is just insane.
“He told me he’d heard me sing “I’ll Be There”, which he thought sounded good. He said to me to just keep doing what I’m doing.”
Of course, if the rumours don’t turn out to be true, Matt’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger may be another likely bet. Scherzy has already appeared a few times as a celebrity performer on the X Factor finals, and we know she’s not one to shy away from the stage (anyone remember that Diva Week medley?).
Matt raved about Nicole last week, saying: “She trusts me and I trust her. We keep saying we’re the same person because we have the same ideas and opinions.
“We understand each other, it’s nice to be able to connect with somebody who understands you.”
We still have one more live show until we will find out, however, and this week it’s Christmas theme! Expect some slightly premature festivities on the show on Saturday.
X Factor continues Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
