WATCH: FOX’s Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot unveils first official trailer
FOX’s Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot finally has its first trailer; and not everybody’s happy about it.
Set to air this Halloween season, the network’s new re-imagining of the 1975 musical cult classic stars Emmy Award-nominated Orange is the New Black actress Laverne Cox in Tim Curry’s iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, alongside Victoria Justice (Victorious) and Ryan McCartan (Royal Pains) as unsuspecting sweethearts Janet and Brad. The trailer also gives us a glimpse at Penny Dreadful‘s Reeve Carney as Frank-N-Furter’s creepy handyman Riff Raff, while other new cast members Adam Lambert, Staz Nair and Christian Milian are yet to be shown.
Coming in at just 30 seconds in length, the footage shown in the brief teaser has – surprise, surprise – successfully pissed off fans of the original. Comments on the YouTube clip range from “The only redeeming quality this movie will have is seeing Vicky Justice in a bra for a little while” to “What in the name of Transylvania is THIS CRAP???? #stopthereboots”, “Reminds me of South Park where George Lucas raped Indiana Jones”, and my personal favourite, “I’m already mentally flipping through the channels to see what else is on”.
As much as we look forward to seeing more of Laverne Cox’s flamboyant, British-inflected performance as the Wikipedia-described yet ultimately indescribable ‘mad scientist who actually is an alien transvestite’ Frank-N-Furter, we must admit; they probably should’ve left the original alone.
