The Durrells will return for series two
ITV has announced The Durrells will return for series two.
The Durrells, which is based upon Gerald Durrell’s autobiographical novels, was a big hit for ITV when the first series aired last spring. The series attracted positive responses from critics and attracted an average audience of 6.9 million across six episodes.
The new series will see Larry (Josh O’Connor) distracted from his writing by romance, Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) deciding to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations, Margo (Daisy Waterstone) trying her luck with an unsuitable man and animal lover Gerald (Milo Parker) discovering an otter close to the family’s home in Corfu.
Meanwhile, their long-suffering mother Louisa (Keeley Hawes) will continue to struggle with finances – which are far from abated when her new landlady Vasilia (Errika Bigio) seems to take an instant disliking to her.
Louisa and the family brainstorm ways to make money, but will any one of their business ideas be successful?
Daniel Lapaine will join the cast as a new prospective love interest for Louisa, English gentleman Hugh Jarvis.
ITV Drama Controller Victoria Fea said: “We loved The Durrells from the moment the idea was pitched to us and it become even more magical when it was brought to screen. It was a very easy decision to commission a second series of this warm and enchanting drama.”
Series two will begin filming in Corfu later this month.
