Simon Cowell has signed 5 After Midnight to his Syco record label
Simon Cowell has signed X Factor group 5 After Midnight to his record label.
Despite placing third in the X Factor final, 5 After Midnight have still managed to secure a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco label. Apparently recognising huge potential, the judge decided he did not want the trio to be grabbed up by a rival record label and so offered them a deal within his own company.
A source told The Daily Star newspaper: “The boys are overjoyed and can’t believe they are signing to Syco.
“Simon has been a big fan of 5AM throughout the series. Out of all the artists he thinks 5AM have the biggest gap in the market. There are very few boybands around at the moment and even fewer urban boybands who dance.”
Last week, it was announced that winner of the X Factor Matt Terry signed a deal with RCA Records after Simon decided he would be better suited under a different label. The last time Simon did this was in 2010 when he transferred Olly Murs to the same company. That very same year, Simon signed boy band One Direction to Syco, who went on to be an utter global triumph.
Simon is clearly hoping that history will repeat itself this year. Could Kieran Alleyne, Nathan Lewis and Jordan Lee replicate the success of the 1D boys?
Well, if not, perhaps it will be Honey G to take the world by storm. 5 After Midnight were not the only contestant to receive a deal through Syco Records this year.
The rapper recently confirmed: “I am ecstatic to announce I have been Signed by Syco, Simon Cowell’s record label and will be releasing my first single on 23rd December.
“I’m looking to come in at the level that One Direction came in at. I know that I can create that hype. I just need the opportunity to be able to sell the records, get the right PR behind me, get the right team behind me that’s really going to blow me up.”
