Sam Smith IS The Voice Of The New Bond Soundtrack
Well, he’s led us on a right merry dance hasn’t he? Sam Smith finally announced last night that he has in fact penned and lent his voice to the soundtrack for the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre.
The award-winning artist announced his involvement via twitter yesterday, following a cryptic tweet from the 23-year-old earlier in the day that showed the artist wearing a ring emblazoned with the Spectre symbol.
He then later went on to post: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.”
He continued: “I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”
The highly anticipated track, named now as “Writing’s on the Wall,” has been co-written by Smith and veteran Bond song producer Jimmy Napes and is set to debut and release on September 25 and will become the first James Bond theme recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.
But it’s not just us who are excited, as in an official statement released by the studios, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have gushed: “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”
Smith’s track will be the follow-up to Adele’s “Skyfall” which went on to great critical and commercial success, landing the songstress an Oscar in 2013, meaning the pressure is on for the young superstar to walk in her footsteps, though with all the to-ing and fro-ing Smith has led us on over the last few months (remember when he tried to tell us Ellie Goulding was recording the track?) its safe to say Smith is fully aware of the enormity of what he is doing.
The track will be available for pre-order on CD, Vinyl and iTunes from midnight tonight, before the track’s released on September 25.
Spectre, the 24th Bond film starring Daniel Craig will be available in cinemas in the UK from October 26.
