Rihanna lands *major* role in Bates Motel
Yaaaas queen! Unstoppable hitmaker Rihanna has landed her first major acting role and, of course, it’s going to be iconic. Following up her 2012 role in Battleship and short but scene-stealing cameo in This Is The End, RiRi has now signed on to star in Psycho prequel series Bates Motel; as no other than Marion freaking Crane.
Played by Janet Leigh in the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock original, Crane is of course the ill-fated anti-heroine who finds that she’s not alone while in the shower, meaning the role could be a real game changer for Rihanna’s acting career.
“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate”, said Bates Motel executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin in a statement.
The ‘Anti’ singer had revealed her love of the show in a Vanity Fair profile last year.
The news of the exciting and unexpected casting was revealed at Comic Con over the weekend, and followed up with this painfully fierce self-recorded video from Queen Ri herself:
