Michael Gambon To Play Winston Churchill In ITV Drama
After confirming the two-hour film Peter and Wendy, which will star British singer-songwriter Paloma Faith and Fortitude star Stanley Tucci, UK network ITV has commissioned another very exciting original feature film, Churchill’s Secret, which will star Michael Gambon as Sir Winston Churchill, and Lindsay Duncan as Clementine Churchill.
Based on Jonathan Smith’s book, The Churchill Secret: KBO, the drama will be set in the summer months of 1953 – during Churchill’s second term in office – when the Prime Minister suffered a life-threatening stroke kept a secret from the world.
“Churchill’s Secret is the extraordinary and compelling story of how one of our country’s most famous political figures battled back from life-threatening illness to hold on to power, ” said ITV’s director of Drama, Steve November.
“We’re delighted to commission Churchill’s Secret from Daybreak Pictures and to be working with Michael Gambon as Sir Winston Churchill and Lindsay Duncan as his wife Clemmie,” November added.
Churchill’s Secret is adapted by Stewart Harcourt (Love & Marriage, Treasure Island, Poirot), and produced by Daybreak Pictures, with Hal Vogel and David Aukin overseeing production.
Filming will begin in June 2015.
