Meet our new Great British Bake Off 2016 winner
So the BBC series of the Great British Bake Off has finally come to a close and at last a baker was crowned the 2016 champion.
After eleven weeks of gruelling baking challenges, the Bake Off winner was announced last night (Wednesday) in the concluding BBC episode. Andrew Smyth, Jane Beedle, and Candice Brown were all in the running to be crowned the Great British Bake Off 2016 winner, and the trio pulled out all of the stops last night to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry for one last time.
We may be devastated to have said goodbye to Marry Berry and presenters Mel and Sue now that the show will be transferring to rival broadcaster Channel 4, but to numb the pain of those departures we can at least focus on celebrating the victory of our new Bake Off champion.
So without further ado, the winner was…
Drum roll please…
That’s right, it was Candice who came out on top during this royal-themed finale and the baker certainly gave an impressive performance.
After tackling a difficult signature and technical challenge, it was the final showstopper in which Candice totally wowed the judges. Paul and Mary requested a whole picnic showstopper from each baker, allowing them five hours to make a chocolate cake, 12 puff pastry sausage rolls, 12 mini quiches, 12 scones and 12 tarts.
After Paul and Mary’s final tasting, it was time for the winner to be revealed. The past bakers returned and the family and friends of the finalists joined the tent for the final results.
An emotional Candice looked over the moon to be selected. And, of course, we have to give a special mention to runners up Andrew and Jane, who may not have won the title but have certainly won our hearts over the course of the series as a truly loveable pair of personalities.

Congratulations Candice! And congratulations to the BBC for another great instalment of Bake Off. We can’t quite believe it’s over, but we look forward to seeing what Channel 4 has in store for viewers with the new series in 2018.
