Matt Lucas joins Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie for new Doctor Who series
Matt Lucas will return to Doctor Who for the forthcoming tenth season of the sci-fi drama, which begins filming next Monday in Cardiff.
First on screen in Christmas 2015 special ‘The Husbands of River Song’, Lucas played the bumbling duffel-coated Nardole in the popular franchise. In his first appearance Nardole was the servant of River Song and King Hydroflax, who mistook the Doctor for an actual doctor.
Series ten will be the first series featuring new assistant Pearl Mackie, who makes her television debut in the first episode alongside twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi. It will also be the last series overseen by outgoing executive producer Steven Moffat.
Speaking about his return to Doctor Who, Matt Lucas said: “I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl.”
Steven Moffat added: “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS – and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”
