James Norton and Robson Green will return for Grantchester series 3
James Norton and Robson Green have confirmed they will be returning for a third series of Grantchester and a Christmas special.
The pair reprise their roles as Vicar Sidney Chambers and Police Inspector Geordie Keating in the Cambridgeshire-based mystery drama for a six new episodes to air in 2017. They will also film a 90 minutes Christmas special for 2016.
The Christmas special is tipped to be an emotional and snow-filled episode, centring on Amanda and Sidney’s relationship now that a pregnant Amanda (Morven Christie) has left her husband Guy (Tom Austen).
The third series will kick off with Sidney being reminded of his duties as a clergyman, which will conflict yet again with his feelings for Amanda. Meanwhile, Geordie gets closer to feisty police secretary Margaret (Seline Hizli) and a heartbroken Leonard (Al Weaver) must find happiness without Daniel (Oliver Dimsdale).
Peter Davison will guest star in the new series as a strict village solicitor called Geoff Towler.
Grantchester has been a big hit for ITV, averaging 6.4 million viewers for its second series earlier this year.
ITV Controller of Drama Victoria Fea said: “Viewers have really taken Grantchester to their hearts. We’re really excited to commission not only a third series, but also a Christmas special. The village of Grantchester is always beautiful, but to add a festive touch will be absolutely wonderful!”
