ITV confirms Ant McPartlin will return to I’m A Celebrity following his recovery from drug addiction
Ant McPartlin will host the next series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alongside Declan Donnelly, following his recovery from drug addiction.
The presenter recently checked himself into rehab after struggling with depression as well as substance and alcohol abuse. With fans wondering whether Ant would recover in time to work on the popular ITV show, bosses have now confirmed his return to Australia this winter.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International TV Festival, ITV boss Kevin Lygo said: “Ant is doing really well and we are expecting him to return for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.”
Kevin also spoke about the importance of big shows like I’m A Celebrity to ITV and described their continued effort to ensure those series stay “fresh and good”.
He said: “We don’t often talk about shows that have been on for a long time but they are vitally important to ITV and we have to put a lot resource and effort and energy into keeping these shows fresh and good. There have been no new entertainment shows in last 10 years that have taken the world by storm.”
Ant recently praised the “brilliant” NHS doctor who saved him from addiction and depression. Professor David Deehan told The Sun: “It is always a privilege to help and surgery is a team effort. It is also very easy and a joy to treat a patient who is so honest and as motivated as Anthony.”
A source close to Ant revealed: “Professor Deehan has been a huge part of turning Ant’s life around. Ant thinks he’s brilliant and can’t stop telling everyone how important this guy has been to his recovery.
“He was so let down by private healthcare, both in terms of his failed knee op and doctors who kept prescribing him dangerous painkillers in London. Ant knew he needed a different surgeon.”
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! will return later this year to ITV.
