ITV commissions new mystery drama Loch Ness
ITV has confirmed the commission of a new six-part murder mystery series set by the iconic Loch Ness in Scotland.
The new series is about the life-or-death hunt for a serial killer in a community sustained by the Loch Ness monster mystery. When the body of a man is found and a single human heart is later discovered on the shores of the loch, a devastating course of events unravels. It will rock the beautiful, enigmatic town and its residents forever.
Laura Fraser (Houdini & Doyle), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley) and John Sessions (Upstart Crow) are signed up to play leading roles, while Don Gilet (Brief Encounters), Gray O’Brien (The Daniel Connection) and William Ash (The Tunnel) will also appear.
Fortitude writer Stephen Brady will write the series, which will be overseen by ITV Studios Creative Director for Drama Tim Haines.
Tim Haines, who will also work as an Executive Producer on the new show, said: “Serial killers are monsters that lie beneath the surface of normal happy communities. Where better to hunt for one than in a place that has thrived off its own monster myth for centuries – Loch Ness.”
ITV Controller of Drama Victoria Fea added: “Loch Ness is a gripping, tightly-plotted drama which focuses on how a serial killer terrifies a local community. Stephen Brady’s compelling scripts utilise the wilderness of Loch Ness perfectly.”
The series began filming in the Scottish Highlands last month.
