International Cast Announced For The Young Pope
Details of the full international cast for the eagerly awaited The Young Pope have been announced.
The Young Pope will star two time Academy Award-nominee Jude Law as Pope Pius XIII and Academy Award winner Diane Keaton as Sister Mary.
Joining the cast are Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Toni Bertorelli, James Cromwell, Guy Boyd, Andre Gregory, Sebastian Roché, Marcello Romolo, Ignazio Oliva, Vladimir Bibic and Nadie Kammalaweera.
Orlando will play Secretary of State Cardinal Voiello, Shepherd will play Cardinal Dussolier, de France will play marketeer Sofia, while Cámara will play Cardinal Gutierrez, the Master of Ceremonies of the Vatican City.
The Young Pope explores the trials and tribulations of Pope Pius XIII, a young American in the role of most powerful man in the Roman Catholic Church. Pius is resistant to Vatican courtiers and is described to be similar to Breaking Bad’s Walter White or The Sopranos’ Tony Soprano.
The show was created by Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino. It will be exec-producers by Lorenzo Mieli, Mario Gianani and John Lyons for Wildside and Simon Arnal, Caroline Benjo and Carole Scotta for Haut et Court.
Production on the series, which is a joint venture between HBO and Sky, began last week.
