Homeland season 6 casts House of Cards star
House of Cards star Elizabeth Marvel has landed a role in the upcoming sixth season of Homeland.
Marvel will portray the first female American president in the series, Elizabeth Keane, a former New York senator who survives a brutal election fight to win the election.
It’s not the first time Marvel has played a character with fierce political ambitions. She previously portrayed Heather Dunbar, who took on the conniving Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) for the presidency in acclaimed political thriller House of Cards.
She didn’t win that time, but Keane is describe as bright, charismatic and a natural politician.
Earlier this year at a Q&A, Homeland star Claire Danes revealed some details about the character Marvel is set to play, describing her not as a fictionalisation of Hillary Clinton but instead sharing traits with all of the different presidency candidates.
Danes said: “[She] challenges the norms [and] is a little scary for that reason. She gets along with Carrie Mathison pretty well.”
Production for the newest series of Homeland will begin later than usual in August, after the series relocated from Germany to New York. It is expected to premiere in early 2017.
