Emilia Clarke feared she might get fired from Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke admitted she used to worry about producers firing her during the early stages of filming.
Talking to Time about how the HBO series was the first major project she had worked on since drama school, Clarke recalled her first day on set.
“Fear! I was just petrified! I genuinely was so scared – I was so fresh out, a year and a bit, so I’d done a couple of little things, but this was the first proper thing that I’d ever done,” she said.
“I was just thinking at any moment they would fire me, and at any moment they’d be like, ‘Just joking, take the wig off’.”
Despite the fact Daenerys Targaryen is now one of the most treasured characters on Game of Thrones, the actress confessed she still gets nervous when returning to set for each season.
“I get first-day-of-school jitters on the first day back every year,” she revealed.
“Every year I’m like, ‘I’ve forgotten how to be Daenerys, I never knew how to anyway. That last season was terrible; I was awful! I’ve got to be better!’ So that never goes away.”
Emilia recently confirmed that she won’t be featuring in any of the planned Game of Thrones spin-offs.
She said: “I have no doubt there’ll be prequels and sequels and who knows what else. But I am doing one more season. And then that’ll be it.”
Game of Thrones season 7 returns in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on 17 July.
