EastEnders star Pam St. Clement to join Casualty
EastEnders legend Pam St. Clement is set to join Casualty for a one-episode guest stint.
The star, most famous for her portrayal of Butcher matriarch Pat on the London-based soap, will be a guest star in Casualty‘s upcoming feature-length 30th anniversary episode. She will play new patient Sally Hodge, an unfriendly and bad-tempered woman who makes Charlie Fairhead’s job very difficult.
Speaking about the new role to The Mirror, St. Clement said: “Put it this way, if Sally was walking down the same street as Pat Butcher, Pat would neatly sidestep on to the opposite pavement.”
“She’s an unfortunate woman because of her emotional baggage and she doesn’t always come over as being very nice. But it was a nice complicated character to play – very condensed.”
Pat Butcher died from pancreatic cancer in 2012 in heartbreaking scenes on Eastenders, but St. Clements recently returned to reprise her role as part of Peggy Mitchell’s drug-addled hallucinations shortly before she took her own life in another emotional death storyline. Peggy and Pat were long-time frenemies on the soap.
St. Clement had portrayed Pat Butcher for 26 years before she left the show.
