EastEnders favourites to die in a “gruesome” New Year’s spectacle
Poor Ronnie Mitchell just can’t catch a break…
Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell will apparently leave the show in a “gruesome” drowning scene set on New Year’s Day – the day of Ronnie’s second wedding to Jack Branning.
According to The Sun, a jealous Roxy will drunkenly stumble into a swimming pool and drunkenly drown at Ronnie’s wedding party, and Ronnie’s attempts to save her sister will see her too dragged to her watery doom by the weight of her wedding dress.
That’s a bit depressing, even for EastEnders!
The storyline will reportedly air during the New Year 2017 episodes, after the bizarre scenes were filmed this week.
It’s worth noting none of this is confirmed by the BBC, who are keeping schtum on the nature of the famous Mitchell sisters’ exits, so this storyline could just be a hoax or one of the many planned endings for the Mitchell sisters devised to throw pesky paps off the scent.
Roxy and Ronnie’s departure from EastEnders was first announced in August 2016. However, it was later reported that stars Rita Simons and Samantha Womack were devastated to learn their characters would be killed off.
During their time on screen, the Mitchell sisters have been a force to be reckoned with – dealing with their abusive dad, relationship issues and the deaths of many close to them. Ronnie has struggled with historical abuse from her father Archie plus the deaths of her long-lost daughter Danielle and newborn son. Roxy has had a slightly easier time on the Square, where her main storylines involved hiding the paternity of her daughter, briefly becoming a millionaire and one-night-stands with two of Ronnie’s husbands.
Their presence will be missed!
