EastEnders airs shocking and tragic hospital mix-up twist
EastEnders regular Paul Coker was revealed to have died in a tragic twist last night, after boyfriend Ben Mitchell’s family were led to be believe it was their son who had died.
Paul and Ben, played by Jonny Labey and Harry Reid, were last seen in Friday’s episode heading off for a night on the town. In Monday’s episode, Ben’s brother Ian (Adam Woodyatt) received the tragic news that Ben was in intensive care with serious injuries after a fight, and it was only later that it was revealed Ben had died from his injuries.
EastEnders had another shock in store however, as when Ian and Ben’s father Phil went to identify the body, they discovered it was Ben’s boyfriend Paul who was lying motionless in a hospital bed. Paul’s grandparents Pam (Lin Blakley) and Les (Roger Sloman) are currently unaware of the turn of events, believing their grandson to be in bed at home with a hangover.
Speaking about the shock twist, actor Jonny Labey said: “It has been [hard to keep secret]. I knew about the exit ages ago so had to stay quiet.
“When I heard all the details I was shocked at first as it was my exit storyline. But the storyline is beautifully written and the build up to it is great. So much happens with Jenny coming into the scene and Paul and Ben taking over the business, it’s all looking very hopeful. The way it’s all been written is great.”
Fans have been left wondering where Ben Mitchell is, and whether he may also have been gravely injured in the attack on Paul.
