Chiwetel Ejiofor to join Robert Redford in Netflix drama ‘Come Sunday’
12 Years a Slave star and all round charming man Chiwetel Ejiofor is headed for the pulpit in upcoming Netflix drama Come Sunday.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ejiofor is in talks to join Robert Redford in the new faith-based project helmed by Joshua Marston (Maria Full Of Grace), which follows the story of Carlton Pearson; an evangelical preacher from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who was branded a heretic upon espousing that there is no hell. The film will take its basis from a 2005 episode of radio show This American Life, whose host Ira Glass and producer Alissa Ship will take on producing roles alongside Endgame Entertainment’s James D Stern.
Ejiofor will play Pearson, while Redford will take on the role of Oral Roberts – a controversial televangelist and Pearson’s mentor.
Production on Come Sunday is scheduled to begin next January. The film will join Netflix’s ever growing catalogue of ambitious original films, including David Ayer’s big-budget Bright starring Will Smith, and David Michôd’s satirical War Machine with Brad Pitt.
Chiwetel Ejiofor can next be seen in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which hits UK cinemas this November 4th.
