Was Cheryl body shamed by presenters on Good Morning Britain?
Kate Garraway surprised viewers this morning (Friday), after making some rather snide comments about Cheryl’s weight loss and divorce.
After months of waiting, Cheryl’s divorce from ex husband Jean Fernandez-Versini was finalised yesterday, and the news about the split also came alongside the upsetting revelation that the marriage had taken a real toll on the singer’s health.
The former X Factor judge opened up about her struggles in court papers as the divorce was given the green light. Stating “unreasonable behaviour” as the reason for wanting out of the marriage, Cheryl’s lawyers expanded on this claim, arguing that “It caused stress and weight loss”.
Whilst most people were busy sympathising with the Geordie celebrity over her failed marriage and health concerns, the presenters on Good Morning Britain didn’t appear to tread as carefully around the sensitive topic.
In a segment about the singer, entertainment editor Richard Arnold discussed how the unhappy marriage had sparked Cheryl’s sudden weight loss last year with co-hosts Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway.
The presenter added: “That’s what counts as putting on weight in Cheryl’s world.”
Not cool, Kate.
All three television hosts preceded to laugh at the comment, before Richard defended the star by saying: “She’s happy.”
It’s probably fair to say that Cheryl’s had it tough enough as it is the last year, without the media mocking her personal health struggles. Hopefully everyone will keep the jokes at bay now so that she can find happiness in her new chapter of life.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
