Celebrity Big Brother launches with lowest January viewing figures ever
The new series of Celebrity Big Brother returned to screens last night with the lowest January figures on Channel 5 to date.
Last night (Tuesday), viewers saw an impressive haul of old and new celebrity housemates enter the Big Brother house, including the likes of Heidi and Spencer Montag, Calum Best, Coleen Nolan, James Jordan and Nicola McLean.
Despite the excitement surrounding the new All Stars v New Stars theme, the launch night received it’s lowest winter figures ever, raking in a sum of 2.3 million viewers.
The numbers were down 500,000 on the last January series premiere but, having said this, the show did face some stiff competition last night with Silent Witness receiving an impressive 6.2 million views over on BBC One.
However, CBB did manage to secure higher viewing figures than ITV which had only 1.9 million for Robson Crusoe: A Surprising Adventure and Channel 4’s 24 Hours in A&E which had 1.5 million.
The 2017 viewing figures make it the least watched winter series launch to date and the second worst launch ever after 2015’s summer run (2.2 million).
Celebrity Big Brother launch viewing figures:
2017 Winter: 2.3 million
2016 Summer: 2.4 million
2016 Winter: 2.8 million
2015 Summer: 2.2 million
2015 Winter: 3.3 million
2014 Summer: 2.4 million
2014 Winter: 3.4 million
2013 Summer: 2.8 million
2013 Winter: 3.6 million
The confirmed line-up of celebrity faces entering the house this year is: Heidi and Spencer Montag, Angie Best, Austin Armacost, Bianca Gascoigne, Brandon Block, Calum Best, Coleen Nolan, James Jordan and Nicola McLean, Ray J, Stacy Francis, Jasmine Waltz, James Cosmo and Jamie O’Hara.
It already looks a promising start to the series with the comeback contestants having already been given the role of ‘producers’ in the house. And this comes hand in hand with an interesting power: the ability to ‘edit’ certain new celebrities out of the show.
Celebrity Big Brother continues nightly on Channel 5 for the next month.
