Former Great British Bake Off contestant Dr. Tamal Ray is set to front a new health documentary on Channel 4.
The new documentary, titled Be Your Own Doctor, will explore ways for people to lead healthier lives and question why many people no longer go to the doctor for medical advice as soon as they become unwell.
Ray is best known for competing in the 2015 version of The Great British Bake Off whilst training to be an anaesthetist in Manchester. He was one of two runners up in the competition, after being beaten by Nadiya Hussain in the final.
Ray will appear alongside Food Unwrapped presenter Kate Quilton on the documentary pilot. Quilton will also return for a second series of Tricks of the Restaurant Trade on Channel 4, which originally aired in January to 1.8 million viewers.
As well as Be Your Own Doctor and Tricks of the Restaurant Trade, Channel 4 has also ordered new two-part documentary Secrets of Our Favourite Foods and recommissioned consumer programme Supershoppers for a second series.
Channel 4’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Dorothy Byrne, said: “All four of these series concepts bring together the best of populist investigative journalism and features programmes which reflect people’s everyday lives.”
