Amazon greenlights ‘Jack Ryan’ series with John Krasinski in leading role
Funny man John Krasinski of The Office U.S. fame is set to build on his action portfolio by taking on the role of Jack Ryan in a new 10-episode series for Amazon.
After impressing audiences with his performance as a former Navy SEAL in Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, Krasinski will now play the popular CIA hero previously portrayed by Chris Pine, Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford.
According to Variety, the new hourlong action drama will “follow the title character, an up-and-coming CIA analyst, who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. He uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale”.
Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios, says of the acquisition: “We’re excited to add the Jack Ryan global franchise to our robust originals pipeline. Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content.”
The team behind the new series includes the Lost duo of co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, plus Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount TV in production seats.
Jack Ryan will shoot in the U.S., Europe and Africa, with no release date or further casting details revealed as of yet.
