Amazon acquires rights for Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience in the UK
Amazon has acquired the rights to show Starz series The Girlfriend Experience exclusively in the UK, Germany, Austria and Japan.
Based on the 2009 film of the same name and produced by the Palme d’Or-winning director Stephen Soderbergh, The Girlfriend Experience is a critically-acclaimed new series about law student Christine Reade, whose struggle to juggle classes, expenses and an internship at prestigious law firm Kirkland & Allen leads her to begin working as a high-class escort. However, her two worlds collide emphatically when her evening job causes her to uncover a terrible scandal at Kirkland & Allen.
The series stars Elvis Priestley’s granddaughter Riley Keough (Mad Max) as Christine Reade, as well as Paul Sparks (House of Cards) as Christine’s boss David Tellis and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24) as his partner Erin Roberts.
The Girlfriend Experience was originally made available last April on Starz On Demand, the on-demand platform for US premium cable channel Starz. Amazon has previously agreed deals to air Starz series Outlander and Black Sails in the UK.
