Sweetie Darling, Absolutely Fabulous is coming to the Big Screen
Joanna Lumley has confirmed that the hit-show Absolutely Fabulous is being made into a feature film.
Lumley, who is known for her portrayal of Patsy Stone in the hilarious sitcom, has ended months of speculation today through an announcement made on This Morning that the script for the feature has been completed and that production is due to start in October.
The Wolf of Wall Street actress assured viewers that the film will be “ravishingly funny,” confirming that lead actress Jennifer Saunders (who plays protagonist Eddie Monsoon) has written the script and will resume her role.
“We are all there, the same old gang,” said Lumley. “Lots of people you will have seen in it before, I think we are going down to the south of France to do some of the shooting there.
“It’ll all be shot on location. It is going to be ravishingly funny! Very gorgeous… and completely fabulous!”
When speaking about the possibility of an Ab Fab movie earlier this year, Saunders promised that the bulk of the film’s action will take place in London, while similarly stating that “all the main characters and virtually everyone that’s ever been in the series” will be involved.
For Ab Fab fans this as a good sign that series favourites Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks will be involved in some form.
Absolutely Fabulous ran for five series on the BBC between 1992 and 2003. The show returned for three special episodes in 2011 and 2012 to mark the sitcom’s 20th anniversary.
Ab Fab: The Movie can be expected to hit cinemas at some point in 2016.
