5 TV shows to watch if you want to be a millionaire
Everybody’s favourite retail mogul Harry Selfridge will be returning to our screens tonight (08.01.16) for a fourth series of Mr. Selfridge.
This series finds us in 1928 and sees Harry Selfridge a little older and a little more tired. He’s beginning to lose his grip on his money-making empire and new kid on the block, Mr. Dillon (played by Line of Duty’s Sacha Dhawan), has got Mr. Selfridge worried.
Take a first look at what to expect in the new series:
Business is a hot topic in the TV world and there are inspiring entrepreneurs popping up in all sorts of guises. So after you’ve learnt everything you can from Mr. Selfridge, here’s four more business masterminds to help you make your first million.
A musical drama which centres on “Empire Entertainment”, a hip hop music and entertainment company run by Lucious Lyon. When Lucious is diagnosed with ALS he is forced to start thinking about who will take over as CEO of the company. Will it be ex-wife Cookie – out of prison after 17 years on a drug dealing charge she took to save Lucious and his company? Or one of his three sons: Jamal, the black sheep in Lucious’ eyes; Andre, power hungry but suffering from bipolar disorder; or Hakeem, the fame-obsessed, rising hip hop star?

With the eleventh series just finished, the enduring popularity of this business reality show is undeniable. Whether due to the fast-paced challenges, Sugar’s glorious put downs or just simply watching the ineptitude of stupid human people – audiences love it. We don’t really glean many entrepreneurial tips from the show but at least we know what not to do.
Oh and you could watch the American version of the show but you’ll have to put up with this guy…

Following in the golden footsteps of the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs, Silicon Valley tells the story of Richard Hendricks as your stereotypical shy and reserved computer programmer who stumbles upon a big idea. Selling his app for a cool $10 million he enters into the cutthroat world of Silicon Valley. He and his small team try to stay above water whilst taking on the big sharks. A hilarious portrayal of the tech world, this might get your brain mulling over that potential billion dollar app you’d been thinking about.

A light-hearted addition to end this list, Billionaire Boy graced our television screens this Christmas. Adapted from David Walliams’ book of the same name, it follows Joe Spud, whose dad created “Bum Fresh” – the most famous toilet roll in the world. An instant hit, Len Spud became a billionaire and he and his son live in luxury. Joe soon discovers that money can’t buy you everything and struggles to make friends at a new school. We can all guess the tug-on-your-heartstrings ending but this is a great show to watch to prepare you emotionally for your new billionaire lifestyle.
