5 Reasons Why We Launched TV Guide Chat
Frustrated with being overwhelmed and confused on Twitter and WhatsApp when talking about your favourite shows? For all the television fans who want a new way to chat online about their favourite shows, TVGuide.co.uk has the solution.
Introducing the new TV Guide Chat, the newest feature on our Android applications, which offers our users the ability to discuss television shows in real time. Using our new instant gif-creation technology, we’re able to instantly depict the television twists, interactions and fights you want to talk about. Plus, all gifs are shareable on social media. How’s that for convenient?
Here are the five reasons that made us realise it was time for a new way to talk about TV:
1. It’s difficult to talk about specific moments on television.
One of the most frustrating things about trying to discuss television online is not being sure exactly what somebody is responding to, especially if you’re not watching a show in real time. TV Guide Chat deals with this by producing gifs every six seconds and locating them all on a timeline, so you can scroll to where you are in the show at will. With the use of gifs, it’s easy to know exactly what fans are talking about.
2. Current social media platforms don’t quite cut it when chatting about TV.
A lot of fans go to Twitter to discuss their favourite shows as they watch them. However, the problem with Twitter is that again – it’s hard to know exactly what moment some person is talking about – and it’s very easy to get crowded out with Twitter’s enormous user base. This makes it very difficult to have a meaningful discussion with anybody about a show over Twitter, or even to always know what they’re talking about. Social media groupchats, such as WhatsApp, also face issues for fans outside of real time. Without a timeline, how do you even know where to discuss a show?
3. We can produce shareable gifs in a matter of seconds.
We have the technology to create shareable gifs in a matter of seconds for all your favourite shows, so why not use it? No longer do fans have to slave over Photoshop to recreate their favourite moments, or else wait for some gif whizz to whip them over to Tumblr. We’ll have all the best moments available to share on all social media in a matter of seconds, and nobody has to lift a finger. All you have to do is scroll through the timeline for the specific moment you want. It’s that easy.
4. Our users LOVE to talk about television.
We get a lot of comments on shows on our TVGuide.co.uk forums and programme details pages, so we know how much you love and want to talk about television. While our programmes details pages may be hidden away and many users may not even think to look for them, TV Guide Chat is at the forefront of our Android app. We’re hoping regular TVGuide.co.uk commenters will come together with first-time users to inspire and enjoy conversation over their favourite (and let’s be honest, least favourite) shows.
5. We want to connect television fans across the country.
Have you ever been watching a show and had nobody to talk to about it? It’s one of our biggest frustrations. With TV Guide Chat, we’re introducing our users to other users watching a show in real time, so that you can share the experience of watching television with each other.
