5 Christmas TV specials we can’t wait to watch
It’s officially 31 days until Christmas and we couldn’t be more excited… for the TV specials. Our favourite TV shows love to wait until the festive season to crack(er) out their best content and this year looks like no exception.
Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special – BBC One: Christmas Day, 5pm
This year’s Strictly special welcomes back some of our favourite celebrity contestants from the past as well as the winner of The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief, Cassidy Little. Joining Cassidy will be series’ winners Abbey Clancy, Tom Chambers and Harry Judd. TV and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon and This Morning presenter Alison Hammond complete the sparkling line-up.
Christmas University Challenge – BBC Two: Christmas Day, 7:10pm
Don’t deny you wouldn’t enjoy a bit of quizzing on Christmas Day. Everybody loves the chance to feel like a genius and there’s no better feeling than getting a question right on University Challenge. If you want to look smart in front of your family, a safe bet is to constantly guess Monet or Manet and we promise, eventually you’ll be right. Previous guests have included author Philipa Gregory, comedian Shazia Mirza and actor Samuel West.
Mrs Brown’s Boys – BBC One: Christmas Day, 9:30pm
Agnes Brown is a bit like marmite, you either love her or you hate her… and she spreads so well on toast. We love her (but hate marmite) and can’t wait for a new installment of the Irish matriarch and her boys on Christmas Day. This year Agnes stars in two episodes, spending the first fighting with yet another new feature on a Christmas tree (when will she buy a normal tree?) and deciding whether nor not to go on her first date in years in the second.
Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show – BBC One: Christmas Day, 10pm
The UK’s favourite comedian returns to London for a fun-filled Christmas show in the historic Theatre Royal. Forgoing last year’s chat show set-up, this year McIntyre returns to what he does best, entertaining a live audience with a stellar line-up of celebrity friends including Tom Jones, Ellie Goulding and Dara O’Briain.
QI Christmas Special – BBC Two: Christmas Day, 10:30pm
With the devastating news that Stephen Fry will be hanging up his host hat after 13 years, the Christmas special of our favourite myth-busting panel show is one to watch. As can be expected, this year’s special features a star-studded line-up of Jenny Éclair, Bill Bailey, Johnny Vegas and old reliable Alan Davies.
Come back to tvdaily.com later this week to see our predictions for the biggest Christmas TV shows. Think along the lines of: who’s the culprit in Sherlock, will there be a new companion in Doctor Who and who will be killed off in Downton Abbey?!
